Swine Influenza is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A Influenza Viruses. There is no evidence to show that swine flu can be transmitted through food. Eating properly handled and cooked pork and pork products is safe. CDC is currently working on making a 2-dose vaccine, suspected to be ready in the end of October, 2009. Early vaccine studies suggest that a 2-dose schedule may not be necessary and desired results may be attainable through 1 dose for those above the age of 10. Children under the age of 10 had a weaker response to the vaccine. They will likely need two doses given 21 days apart.
